Web designers have the ability to make rather handsome amounts of money. It may not be easy to do so, but it can be done. Some get lucky, and others struggle, but each has the power to find their own way. Having the tools is only one part of knowing how to make money designing websites, however, and having the knowledge is the rest.
You could make money working for a company as an option. At some point, a company will likely want a website, and sometimes bigger ones will hire a few to have around for constant web updates. These companies will have a spot through some form of media saying they’re looking for “web masters”.
Other such companies don’t hire for there website, but rather for contracts that they get. These design firms will have various designers to fill contracted orders that they get for other companies. This option is more stable, considering it’s not just one site.
If you don’t want to work for someone, you could work for yourself. All you have to do is make a name for yourself. Putting your name out there via website, business cards, logo, etc. Will help attract more customers/contracts.
Having a logo or a signature or some sort of mark on a website is a very important thing for the self-employed designer. This mark will show up on every website that you design. The more you design, the more often your logo/signature shows up, the more people see it.
If your name is out there and people can find you, it’ll be easier to get contracts. The more contracts you have, of course, the more money you’ll make. Overall, the best way to get contracts is to have satisfied customers, so it’s a meticulous route to take.
Of course, the easiest method of choice, albeit the most boring, is to go into advertising. Going into advertising means using your site (or a site) to put advertisements on for other companies. You put their ad on your site and you’ll get money based on it’s popularity.
And the final method comes from designing a website to sell a product, be it your own or someone else’s. By selling your own, you make money based on the popularity of your website (which means more consumers). By selling someone else’s product, you can request a commission.
There’s so many ways on how to make money designing websites, and each has it’s own set of pros and cons. Some are better because they’re more interesting, while others are better because their easy. If you’re good enough, though, it won’t matter what route to take. By the end of the day, it’s money in the bank from simply sitting around watching the progress.
