With thousands of new blogs making its way to the internet, either your blog is unique or people won’t pay much attention to it. Fortunately, there are many ways to make a unique blog. Below I’m going to share with you some of the techniques I personally use.

1. Voice – Having your own style of writing can really help differentiate yourself with other bloggers. A good example would be Brian Clark of Copyblogger. His writing style is short, precise and interesting.

2. Design – It should come as no surprise that a unique blog design can help differentiate yourself that other blogs in your niche. Besides logo, the color of your blog can also help create a unique experience to your visitors. I recommend having only 2-4 different colors for your blog design.

3. Frequency of Posts – it strikes me that some of the most popular blogs product A LOT of content. Engadget and Gizmodo being two examples. This high frequency of posting makes them prolific and means that if a story is breaking in the gadget space that you’d be certain that they’re covering it. On the flip side some blogs take the opposite approach – their new posts become so rare that people value them highly and share them prolifically.

4. A memorable domain name – Your blog name is your brand. It’s wise to remember that a good domain name is both short and memorable. To stand out, a domain name can be either confronting, funny or otherwise.

5. Give your opinion – Don’t just state the fact. Be sure to share your opinion as well. I recommend to always include your personal thoughts whenever applicable. Your readers want to know your opinion, believe it or not.

6. Prolific – Some bloggers are unique because well they’re everywhere. These bloggers seem to have the ability to be in more than one place at a time – they blog, they’re active on multipole social networks, they are at conferences, they are guest posting on other blogs, they’re in forums. they are everywhere!

7. Expertise – Assuming you have authority in a given field, your blog can rise to the top of the field easily, because people are more willing to read and trust the content of your blog. A good way to showcase your expertise is through providing extensive details in your articles, beyond what others would normally provide.

8. Personal – Don’t just share information, share yourself to the readers as well. Share your experience whenever applicable. This technique is not only useful to explain to your readers your reasoning, but also bond with your readers.
