Domain name registration over a decade ago was a more specialized business with very few offering you the ability to purchase and register your own domain name. Since then, the domain name industry has blossomed and currently their is in existence of hundreds to thousands of service providers offering the chance to pick up and register your own domain name. The one domain name extensions almost everyone will pick up first if given the option is the .com extension which is what every web surfer will naturally type in first when getting on the web.

What about country specific TLD domain extensions? They are available too and some of the options you have is to purchase .us domain names if you are a United States (USA) company, or if you are based in the UK you can purchase a .co.uk domain extension. Also available for the Canadians just north of the states is their own .ca domain name extension. Anyone who wishes to register their site for a canadian audience and to show they are in the canadian market will register a .ca domain extension.

The Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) is the main controlling company overviewing canadian domain names (.ca). They control and monitor all activity with .ca domain names and if you choose to register a domain canada, an email will be sent to the administrative contact email indicating the registration process has been completed and you own the domain name.

Can you simply just go to any cheap domain name registrar and purchase a Canadian domain name or does the company who is selling you the ability to register the domain have to be located in Canada? Any registrar will work for domain name registration as long as you visibly see on their website that they offer the .ca domain extension. Most are offering the capability to register canadian domain names, but their still are companies who do not. One thing you will want to ensure when proceeeding with the domain registration is that the currency they are showing you is in canadian or us dollars. With the rate the conversion is at today, you will be paying more than the posted rate if it is in US Currency.
