Most people do not spend as much time planning their packing as they did to plan their holiday. The result is usually a sleepless night before the trip, a long stare at the closet and then begins and immediate dumping into the suitcase of whatever items your hands latch upon first. Most of us have been through such experiences and hence it very important to learn how to pack well for a trip so that we can be relieved from these anxiety attacks.
In the past, people were accustomed to packing their bags with all the stuff that they felt would be required. It was a normal tendency of a person to pack the suitcase with so many items and to stop only when you couldn’t close it. But with so many travel restrictions nowadays, you need to plan out your packing very carefully.
Many airlines used to allow two bags per passenger, but now you could be charged even for a single bag, if you exceed certain weight than allowed. One of the best places to start is to find out with the airline as to what is not permissible and begin from there. Make one universal packing list with all your basic necessities that you will have to carry irrespective of where you are traveling.
Most travelers bring out the big suitcase fearing whether those carry ons will fit all the stuff that needs to be carried. It has been agreed that packing your stuff in a carry on is all the more difficult. You need to be extra selective if you are only taking a carry on. But if it is too much of a hassle also consider taking another suitcase along to give yourself some extra space.
Rolling up smaller clothes will not only save the room in the bag but also will not waste those small spaces in suitcase. Make sure you pack clothing ensembles that will easily allow you to mix and match, so that you can carry lesser items of clothing.
Once you have collected all the stuff that you are planning to carry with you, before you pack it in ” take one final look. This will give you one more chance to eliminate few things which would actually not be required. Rolling up your pants while packing it in will help minimize wrinkles. Also keep your extra pair of socks and in your shoes while packing to save some space.
Be very careful when selecting heavy clothes like jackets and sweaters. Make sure you check the weather and carry these items only if necessary. When in doubt, just remember the golden rule – travel light. Another good reason for traveling light is that you would have room to shop and who doesn’t love shopping.
Do not wait to pack your suitcase till the last day. Plan at least a week in advance to avoid nasty surprises at the last moment. If your suitcase is well packed, it will also reduce your worries before embarking on a trip and ensure that you haven’t forgotten anything in a hurry.
